Minut is a fast-growing startup who believe every home should feel safe. At the core, we offer non-intrusive smart home security for every type of home through our product the Minut Smart Home Alarm. It’s available today with thousands of people using it around the world.

As Minut’s financial controller you will work with and understand all parts of the business. The Minut group consists of four entities with a parent company in the US and subsidiaries in Sweden and the UK. We can tell you the story of the fourth entity when you join ;)

We believe this is a unique opportunity to join a team with global ambitions and help it grow into a hugely successful business.

In short

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate accounting and reporting across Swedish, US and UK entities.
  • Group consolidation of financial accounts monthly
  • Coordination of audits across all three entities
  • Tax and financial compliance
  • Handling receivables and payables
  • Work with budgets and forecasting

Preferred requirements

  • Experience working in a group company setup
  • Experience working at a startup
  • Relevant higher education in finance, business, or accounting

English is our default working language but for this role, you must know Swedish too. The government simply doesn’t translate all those tax forms yet. Our office is on Baltzarsgatan in central Malmö. Occasional travel to London may be required.

What success in this role looks like

Your background in finance and accounting proves valuable when quickly adapting to the changing needs of the business. Minut is growing into a healthy business with significant recurring revenues which you understand in-depth. Your reports are consolidated on time to be distributed to members of the team, the board and investors.

Since you’re supporting the organisation with accounting, monthly closing, consolidation, VAT and tax reporting it is likely that you are analytical and understand how to prioritize effectively. And as part of a small team (we’re 32 in total today) you work effectively with people wherever they are in the organisation or which office they are located in, unafraid of digging in where it is required.

What a week could look like

No week is like the other. We envisage that you will continue to use and improve the existing practices and processes that have been established to keep Minut’s global operations running smoothly.

Monday

Following up on the KPIs of the business over the weekend and summarise last week’s progress for the Tuesday exec meeting. Some admin and salary preparations to send over to the external bookkeeper.

Tuesday

Weekly call with all the team leads. Budget calls with Kate (Head of Sales) and Rich (Head of Marketing) before lunch. Reporting progress on our subscription sales during the all-hands meeting in the afternoon.

Wednesday

Meeting with Mattias, the auditor from the accounting firm, to go through the checklist of the upcoming audit. Back to the office to get those last invoices from the latest deal out.

Thursday

Weekly check-in with the Operations team and Nils (CEO). Track invoices for latest production batch coming up in a couple of weeks. Cookie club at 3 pm.

Friday

Spending the afternoon researching how to improve the consolidation process between the group’s companies. Perhaps there is a way to make it more efficient next month?

Or, know someone who would be a perfect fit? Let them know!

Perks and Benefits

  • Ability to influence everything

Minut’s organisation is flat and transparent. Executive team meetings are open for all to join. Results of board meetings are presented at all-hands meetings. Once inside, you’ll have access to all data to be able to participate in the decision-making.

  • Responsibilities beyond the normal

The room to grow as an individual at Minut is immense. As a small team breaking new ground, you’ll get to take on tasks and responsibilities that you likely wouldn’t be able to do elsewhere and we’ll help you get there.

  • Ownership

Comes through responsibility, but at Minut we also translate that into financial ownership. All full-time employees are offered a generous stock options package. If we do well together, everyone benefits.

  • Incredible flexibility and travel

Whether you’re a parent or need some extra time to focus, you’re always welcome to work from home from time to time. We only ask that you communicate in advance and let your colleagues know. If you’re travelling, take the opportunity to work from any of our offices in Malmö, London or Stockholm.

  • Stellar colleagues

Work with some of the best people in the industry who recently worked at companies such as Apple, Google and S’well. Or why not challenge Fredrik on how to reverse engineer a 4G base station?

Workplace and Culture

Explore

Joy, experimentation and curiosity may not lead us on the straightest path but it will take us the furthest. We work hard to help and challenge each other to break new ground.

"Fika"

We believe in opportunities to share, socialise and relax with colleagues. "Fika" is a lot more than a simple coffee break. Sometimes these moments lead to the best ideas.

Flexible

Whether you need to pick up the kids or simply take care of that in-home delivery, the hours and location where you work can be flexible from time to time. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
