Frontend Software Engineer

Help more people get access to home security and home monitoring

We’re looking for a developer who wants to help more people get access to home security and home monitoring.

As Minut’s first full-time frontend developer you will split your time between two major projects: our consumer website at https://minut.com and a new device management dashboard for our larger clients (think property management and vacation rental).

You will be able to affect and pick the technologies used for frontend development. Our current stack includes the soon deprecated AngularJS and will need replacing. It was originally written by the two of the co-founders, but their backgrounds are backend and firmware respectively, so there’s room for improvement.

Broadly, we expect you to take responsibility for the following areas when working with frontend development:

  • Accessibility: our product is used by thousands of people around the world with varying backgrounds and technical understanding. It’s important for us that anyone can get and use our products.
  • Aesthetics: together with Minut’s designer and marketing team your work will be to implement a design system that can be used across our website and dashboard tools.
  • Performance: in a world where no one wants to wait, page speed is important. A majority of our website visitors use a mobile device to navigate the site.
  • Security: we take security (and privacy) seriously and expect you to do as well. We’re building home security after all. You will get to add support for two-factor authentication and regularly review and assess the security needs of Minut’s web tools.
  • Quality of code: in time, you won’t be the only full-time frontend developer and, from time to time, other developers will work with you on projects. For your own, and everyone else’s sake, it’s important that the code is clean, easy to understand, and maintainable over time. Nothing at Minut gets deployed to production without approved code reviews.

Minut’s developers’ backgrounds range from firmware, backend, data science, to apps. Some have spent years honing their skills, while others are just starting the journeys in their fields. Together we help each other improve and set up efficient processes for development. Today, we use a form of Kanban to manage the development process. We hold daily stand-ups, plan our work in Jira, and perform bi-weekly retrospectives.

You will have responsibility for specific projects and tasks, with the whole team to back you up. At Minut you're encouraged to ask questions, ask for questions, and share your knowledge and help other colleagues.

Work is a big part of life, but it is not everything. We enjoy working together from one of our offices in Malmö, Stockholm or London and also realise that, once in a while, working from home helps balance other commitments.

As the first full-time frontend developer at Minut your career path might move towards either a tech lead role or a team lead role. It really depends on what you want and we’ll help you get there as the company grows.

There are no formal requirements for this job. If you believe you can do the job we would love to talk to you. If you are hesitant or have questions, then please ask. At Minut we believe that's a great way of learning!

Workplace and Culture

Joy, experimentation and curiosity may not lead us on the straightest path but it will take us the furthest. We work hard to help and challenge each other to break new ground.

We believe in opportunities to share, socialise and relax with colleagues. "Fika" is a lot more than a simple coffee break. Sometimes these moments lead to the best ideas.

Informed people make better decisions. Transparency and honesty is fundamental to healthy relationships. For instance, all executive meetings are open for all to join.

Whether you need to pick up the kids or simply take care of that in-home delivery, the hours and location where you work can be flexible from time to time. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
